Collection, 1919-1978.

Collection contains Betts's lecture notes for his electrical engineering classes as well as some notes from his student days. The bulk of the collection is scrapbooks of local history and Kiwanis newspaper clippings. It also contains API student handbooks, 1919-1930, photo negatives from the 1940s, and miscellaneous records of the Opelika Water Board, 1955-1977. Artifacts include Nazi flags and an armband, items issued to U.S. soldiers, and civic organization memorabilia. Collection contains small amount of Katherine Betts's (spouse of Robert Betts) correspondence relative to Eastern Star and the Auburn Pilot Club. The latter has been separated and placed in RG 800.

Robert A. Betts (1903-1995) was a professor of Electrical Engineering at Alabama Polytechnic Institute from 1926 to 1942. He was an avid student of local history, especially of Opelika, Alabama, where he served on the Water Board, 1955-1977. Betts was a loyal member of the Opelika Kiwanis Club for sixty years.
